- DIFFICULTY: EASY
- 15 MINS
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups water
- 1 ½ cups milk (or plant-based milk for a vegan option)
- 1 tbsp black tea leaves or 2 tea bags
- 1 small sprig fresh rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
- 2-3 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 1 small piece of cinnamon stick
- 1-2 tsp sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
Method
Boil the Water:
- In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and fresh rosemary.
- Let the spices and rosemary simmer in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes to release their flavors.
Add the Tea Leaves:
- Reduce the heat and add the black tea leaves (or tea bags) to the boiling water. Let it steep for 2 minutes.
Add Milk:
- Pour in the milk and bring the mixture back to a gentle boil.
- Simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the tea, milk, spices, and rosemary to combine beautifully.
Sweeten and Strain:
- Add sugar or honey as per your preference and stir well.
- Strain the chai into cups to remove the tea leaves, spices, and rosemary sprig.
Serving Suggestions:
Pair this chai with biscuits, pakoras, or light snacks for a relaxing tea-time experience. Its earthy notes from rosemary complement both sweet and savory accompaniments.
Pro Tip:
Eewa Farms’ rosemary adds a subtle, refreshing aroma to the chai. For a stronger herbal kick, slightly crush the rosemary leaves before adding them to the water.
