- DIFFICULTY: EASY
- 45 MINS
Ingredients
- 1 cup semolina (sooji/rava)
- ½ cup curd (yogurt)
- ½ cup water (adjust consistency)
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 1 small tomato (diced)
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves (finely chopped)
- 1-2 green chilies (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 2-3 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
Method
Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- In a bowl, mix semolina and curd to form a thick batter. Add water gradually to get a smooth consistency.
- Stir in chopped onions, tomatoes, basil leaves, green chilies, cumin seeds, black pepper, and salt. Mix well and let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Toast
- Heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat.
- Spread a thin layer of the batter evenly on one side of a bread slice.
Step 3: Cook the Toast
- Grease the pan with butter or ghee. Place the bread slice batter-side down on the hot pan. Press gently to ensure the topping sticks to the bread.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes or until the semolina mixture turns golden brown and crispy. Flip the bread to toast the other side for about a minute.
Serving Style
Serve the Basil Semolina Toast hot with green chutney, ketchup, or yogurt dip. Garnish with extra chopped basil or coriander for a fresh touch.
Tips
- Add grated cheese on top of the batter before toasting for a cheesy version.
- Experiment with other herbs like mint or parsley along with basil for a unique flavor.
- Use multigrain bread for a healthier option.
